Job Title: Communication Officer

Overall Responsibilities
The Communications Officer will be responsible for supporting the smooth operation of MSH communication drive to maximize visibility of the contribution MSH Nigeria projects is making to the people of Nigeria with support from USAID. She/he will work with MSH Director for Communications, Project Directors, Technical Advisors, Communication Volunteers and where necessary with partner organizations to support visibility of project results.

Specific Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Director for Communications, support the implementation of the MSH Nigeria Communication Strategy, assisting to bring out “causeresult relationships” in the work we do. The officer will:
  • Generate creative ideas for success stories/news nuggets, briefs and other information items. Generate photographs/videorecordings about MSH activities.
  • Draft and edit written communication materials to printready status.
  • Support management of ProACT Communication Team, collating materials generated by technical teams and field offices and mentoring NYSC interns.
  • Manage MSH Nigeria website and support management of MSH Nigeria Communications Folder on SharePoint and shared drive.
  • Draft Press Releases and facilitate effective engagement with the Media to create visibility for MSH projects;
  • Attend, document meetings as required; make inputs into reports/Newsletters etc.
  • Serve as a resource to and operational liaison between ProACT Project (FCT and States), the Communications Unit and other MSH projects.
  • Support timely submission of ProACT reports and documents to the MSH Country Director/SMT and MSH HQ as required; manage soft and hard copies of folders documenting ProACT success stories and photographs in FCT and States of operation.
  • Conduct and/or support other communication/logistics duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Organize Press Conferences/Media coordination and MSH public events – supporting the preparation of Conference agendas/technical materials, invitations etc.
  • Support the process of Newsletter design and compilation; production of other printed communication materials – posters, brochures, etc.
  • Undertake regular strategic travel to supported States to capture stories of events.
Qualifications
  • Masters Degree in the Liberal Arts, Social or other Sciences. Four years postqualification work experience (with Masters Degree) or six years postqualification communicationrelevant experience may be considered as a substitute for Masters in exceptional cases of demonstrated high aptitude for writing.
  • Exemplary verbal/written English language and drafting skills – and evidence of interest in reading widely and writing, essential.
  • Proven track record in communication/creative writing with capacity for strategicthinking
  • At least oneyear supervisorylevel work in development programming or communication. Works independently and takes initiative.
  • Capable of assessing priorities and multitasking in a workintensive situation. Must be good at timemanagement, especially in meeting deadlines with attention to detail and quality.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work as an effective team member in a complex and fastpaced environment; Good office/organizational skills.
  • Highlevel computer skills, especially for graphic and web design or good potential to learn.
  • Understanding of photography and ability to take photographs with impact would be an advantage.

Background Information
The LMS Prevention Organizational Systems AIDS Care and Treatment Project (ProACT) is a USAIDfunded project managed by Management Sciences for Health (MSH). The goal of the project is to build the capacity of Nigeria’s public/private institutions and communities to strengthen sustainable systems for HIV/AIDS and TB service delivery.
