Job Title: Community Capacity Building Advisor (CCBA)
Overall Responsibilities
The Community Capacity Building Advisor (CCBA) will provide overall direction in strengthening community systems for improved health and HIV servicedelivery with particular focus on building capacity of CSOs and local traditional institutions to link and network with health facilities, LGA and other local institutions and resources.
Specific Responsibilities
- Take lead in the development of MSH Community Capacity Building strategy that links individuals, CBOs, CSOs, community leaders (traditional and faithbased) and local governments to constitute a network of community facilitators for improved health.
- In collaboration with staff of the community directorate and others, take responsibility for development and implementation of MSH community capacity development program maximizing the synergies between the community HIV care, treatment and prevention programs.
- Be responsible for overall management of the project grants program in collaboration with the grants manager, COMU and the community directorate. This will entail ensuring they have capacity for planning, monitoring, coordination, resource mobilization, accountability for results, reporting and documentation of good practices and evidencebased decisionmaking.
- Coordinate the provision of highquality institutional capacity building for grantee CSOs and CBOs to strengthen organizations’ systems towards greater sustainability and achievement of their missions. It is expected that technical assistance will focus both on building stronger organizations and on developing individuals to lead them to achieving results.
- Provide technical assistance to selected traditional leadership structures to become champions in building model community system for improved health.
- Coach grantee CSOs in community profile analysis, community monitoring and evaluation, and business development for increased access to grants and other resources.
- The CCBA will serve as a resource for identifying best practices, lessons learned, and innovative approaches to community capacity building, and for disseminating this information in a manner that attracts attention and action by policymakers and stakeholders at the community, health facilities, state, national and international levels.
- A postgraduate degree – preferably in social sciences, behavioural sciences, humanities or business development.
- A minimum of five years experience in building organizational capacity of community based organizations or local communities in Nigeria with evidence of models of practice is a must. The applicant must possess significant senior level work experience in institutional capacity building across the areas of finance, human resources, governance, and planning, and organizational development.
- Experienced in project management particularly in the field of HIV/AIDS will be an advantage.
- Knowledge of PEPFARfunded programs and USAID rules and regulations is required.
- Proven programmatic, technical, and managerial ability and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with professional colleagues in a broad range of indigenous governmental organizations and NGOs.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong facilitation skills
- Supervisory experience required
- Ability to produce results in diverse cultural, social, and language contexts.
- Demonstrated computer skills in MS Office Suite applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Willingness to travel within Nigeria regularly and potentially outside Nigeria, as required.
The LMS Prevention Organizational Systems AIDS Care and Treatment Project (ProACT) is a USAIDfunded project managed by Management Sciences for Health (MSH).
